About Me

Cristen Spivey has built a 13-year career in digital as a pop-culture; and television trends expert; creative strategist; and leader of business partnerships. Her specialty is forming relationship with innovators, creative agencies, and start-ups cracking the code on the coolest digital ideas on the market, and the people who are making them. She is currently the Director of Digital for Viacom Catalyst, the internal agency that creates cross-portfolio digital concepts for both Viacom internal departments and popular brands including MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and more.

Cristen is responsible for making sure that each digital campaign at Viacom Catalyst raises the stakes on the last one. She brings together top-notch thinkers, and strategizes and ideates alongside her team to produce the freshest work in 360 video, interactive screens, beautiful web platforms, and social content and strategy. She is most proud of leading digital strategy on Viacom’s Upfronts and a recent 360-experience for Design at Viacom, a museum retrospective celebration Viacom design from 2000-present day. Recent work has garnered award nominations from the Webby’s and PromaxDBA.

Previously, at NBCUniversal, as part of NBCUniversal’s Integrated Media Agency (currently named Content Innovation Agency), Cristen’s partnership with HP and knowledge of augmented-reality, led to NBCU’s AMPLIFIED, the first of its kind augmented-reality campaign on Tumblr for the NBCU Upfronts covered in both the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal, and winning an award in Advertising Age. She also led the digital branch of the massive Healthy at NBCU campaign to promote healthy content across all of NBCU’s online platforms including the Today Show. In addition, she was producing and building global relationships with Samsung at R/GA, the world’s leading digital agency.

Crissy formalized her love for television and earned her Masters in Television, Radio, and Film at Syracuse University’s renowned, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in 2003. After graduating, she produced documentary television for Court TV (now called Tru TV). She put her pop-culture know how to good use at award-wining human rights organization, Breakthrough, using celebrities like Margaret Cho, Victor Garber, and Harold Perrineau to raise awareness via video games and film on immigration and women’s rights issues.

In her free time, Crissy stretches her tastemaker sensibilities by being on top of all the latest trends in fashion, TV, art, and music. And when she’s not hopping around the globe, she’s hopping around the dance floor, as a swing dancer in Manhattan.
